Arkanoid (or 'Breakout' as it's commonly known) is one of the most popular arcade game formats of all time. Countless copies of this ball-bouncing, brick-breaking classic have emerged since the first incarnation of the game in 1986.
ZBall is one of the many ports of the game available for mobile devices, and makes a fair effort at recreating the magic of the original. The object of the game is simply - bounce the ball by using the left and right or 4 and 6 keys to move the paddle left and right. If the ball misses the paddle you lose a life. Your aim is to smash all of the blocks on the screen in order to progress to the next level.
The gameplay in ZBall is addictive but it can very challenging. Thank God for for the speed setting in the game, which allows you to slow things right down in order to make things easier for yourself. It would have been nice to see a few more power-ups in ZBall because the ones are pretty boring.
The graphics in ZBall are very basic and the animation of the ball can be a little jerky. Still, I guess this gives the game a real retro feel.
If you're looking for some retro arcade fun to get you through the journey to work, ZBall is worth a try.
